Greetings from Texas

As many of you are aware, our friend, Will Spilman, is in Air Force Basic Training in Texas. He is scheduled to graduate on January 23rd.

Will sent this letter, and asked to share it with his West Side friends.

Will

Dear West Side Crew,

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!  From Texas of course, basic training style (yay?).  Haha, no it’s good a lot of it’s annoying just dealing with some people but so far I am considered one of the crazy ones that enjoys it here.  My flight consists of half spec-ops, half regular air force.  Out of the spec-ops guys they are half and half TACP and SERE so it’s awesome getting the chance to know some of the men I will serve with and to whom I will entrust my life.

Some funny stories to share, definitely, but perhaps when I am able to see you all in person I will share them…

…Church here is a cool experience.  I have the privilege of sharing my experience with some of my new found brothers and we attend the contemporary protestant service every Sunday.  It’s similar to West Side but definitely catered to the trainees (obviously).  It’s incredible though because we all sing, cry, laugh, cry, cheer, lock arms, and sway together.  It’s an incredible way to grow with people in the same boat.  They bring in a civilian band to lead the worship every weekend and it’s a lot of fun.  Focused on Christ, of course, but a lot of fun.  For Christmas though I will attend liturgical service for a better sermon.

NEW Small Group Forming
  • You are invited, but who are “you?”
  • You, who do not have a small group, but want one.
  • You, who have a small group, but want something different.
  • You, who know someone who wants a small group, and want to help them get connected.

If that’s you, then please attend these Wednesday night gatherings starting September 23rd, and running through the month of October. We plan to have fellowship, bible study, and ultimately establish and launch one or more new small groups for this Fall. Our study time will align with the church-wide Fall Emphasis called “Wiii before Mi.”

We will meet at 2043 Briarcliff Drive, Springfield (Minick house). Doors open at 6:40, formally starting at 7:00. In order to plan accordingly, we want to hear from you. If you plan to attend, please let us know. If you want to participate, but can’t make it this first week, we want to know that. If you just have questions, we want to help.

Host Contact: John or Becky Minick
Phone: (217)741-2680
