Young Adults “serving” in the church? Surely, that doesn’t happen. An occasional special event is one thing, but making an ongoing commitment to return to your post every month is out of character for our spontaneous young adult population… or is it? Truth be told, we have quite a few young adults who serve faithfully in a number of vital roles at West Side. They bring their time and talents to serve others, but they are also blessed in return.
This Sunday, March 14th, you have an opportunity to step up… and sign up for serving in some area of ministry. For the past couple of weeks, the church bulletin has included an insert publicizing the “Volunteer Expo” in the concourse area. When you come to church this week, come early enough to look around and see all the ways you can make a difference… not just “one and done”, but on a regular, ongoing basis.
The Apostle Paul, in Philippians 2:4 says “Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Elsewhere, in 1 Timothy 4:12 he encourages his young friend by saying “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity”. If Paul were walking the halls at West Side this Sunday, what would he be telling you?
