Americans love lists. Whether it’s David Letterman’s ”Top 10 List”, ESPN’s top plays of the day, or an endless variety of entertainment magazines highlighting people and fashions, we love to analyze the best and the worst the world has to offer. Several times in this chapter, lists of 3… make that 4 things are presented to represent some unique characteristic of the world around us. Read Pr 30:1-33, and share your thoughts on lists, life, and… bloody noses?
Hey… Tomorrow is the last day of our Proverbs Challenge. Today is the day that I want to hear from each of you regarding what book of the Bible you plan to read next. Maybe you are going to go into the Old Testament, or into the Gospels, or maybe into some of Paul’s letters. Maybe you don’t plan to read a particular book, but plan to study various passages about a particular subject. Some have told me they are going to partner with someone else to read daily and share their observations with each other via e-mail.
Whatever ongoing plans you have for your daily Bible reading routine, we all want to hear about it. By sharing your plan in the comments below, you will be encouraging others to open their Bibles as well… so please be bold and speak up.
Maybe you have no clue what to study next. If that’s the case, please contact me or talk to a friend.

Verse 3 “I have not mastered human wisdom nor do I know the Holy one” really stuck out to me because it got me thinking that do I want human wisdom…no not really! Yeah sure you need wisdom of how to get through this world because this world can take you down in a heartbeat. But when I read this it tells me that no matter how hard we try we will not master this earth so why do it on our own because by doing so we are not getting to know the Holy one as we should be. He is the one that can truly give us what we need to get through this world so we just to rely on Him for the wisdom or whatever it may be to do so.
This has been a great study! I have been going through it with a couple of guys and have really enjoyed emailing comments back and forth and learning along with them. It has also been great accountability too; not only to read the Bible every day, but stop and think about what I am reading since we send our comments to each another every day. If you have never done this before, you should give it a try. I have gotten to know the guys and myself better as a result. We are going to try to keep this up and move into the book of James and probably go on to the gospel of John after that.
Personally, I plan to read through the Book of Acts. The development of the “early church” is documented in this book. It is always good to maintain an awareness of where we are as a congregation, as a Young Adult Ministry, and as individuals in relation to the church in its purest form. As West Side goes through some significant changes in April, relating those changes to the rapid changes and earthshattering developments of the early church should be interesting.
Thanks for leading us through this, John – it’s been good to focus on wisdom and practical topics. I like to spend time in the gospels in the weeks leading up to Easter – I’ll be reading Mark & John next.
I really like your idea, John, of reading through Acts in my personal Bible reading the next few weeks. With the wonderful changes that are occurring at WS, this would be a great time to learn from how God first set up the early church. Shoot me a facebook message if you plan to read Acts in the next few weeks…I would love to chat and reflect with you!
I enjoyed this study as well! Thanks for providing this opportunity for us. Recently I purchased a Bible that is designed to be read through in one year. It takes a topic and pulls passages from several books then includes a devotional thought. It is a unique look at the Bible. I do not foresee myself finishing in one year but I am anticipating the lessons and insight I will gain along the journey!
