Come watch the Super Bowl with other Young Adults next Sunday, just 8 miles west of the church at 467 S Farmingdale Rd, New Berlin, IL 62670. Kickoff is little before 5:30 pm, so doors will open at 4:45 pm. Chili dogs and drinks will be provided but we’re asking ladies to bring something sweet, fellas to bring something salty, and pop-drinkers to bring a 2-liter. Not a football fan? Come anyway—for the commercials at least, if not for the camaraderie.
We figured it’s high time we streamlined our way of keeping people updated on upcoming Young Adult events. So if you’re receiving this notification in your inbox, know that you’ll no longer be receiving website update notifications. Instead, from now on, you’ll receive updates through weekly YA announcement emails. Of course, if you don’t want to receive these weekly emails, you can always tell us, or simply unsubscribe yourself at the bottom of any future Weekly YA Announcement email you receive.
Second Sunday Lunch: Sunday, January 8
Come to Centennial Hall after the 11:30am service on January 8 to dig in on a free lunch and connect with other young adults that attend West Side.
GROW: Saturday, January 14
GROW, our monthly young adult large-group Bible study (with dessert) will meet Saturday, January 14 in West Side’s Fireside Cafe. As usual, doors open 6:45pmish and teaching will start around 7pm. Don’t miss the chance to make some friends in the West Side young adult community, eat some killer Cafe dessert, and listen to and discuss as we talk about love and relationships. Some Cafe dessert and drinks will be provided for free, but if you want to buy a little extra from the Cafe, bring a little extra money.
Sunday Night Sports
Join us Sunday nights from 6:00pm to 9:00pm in the West Side gym for some not-too-competitive sports. Plenty of basketball & volleyball action and reaction (basketball 6:00-7:30pm and volleyball 7:30-9:00pm). Bring a friend!
Small Groups
Tis the season for the typical end-of-the-year small group shuffle, when people realize their lives and schedules are different than they used to be and they’re needing a different small group that meets a different night of the week. So if you’re needing to switch to a different group, or if you are wanting to get into a West Side YA small group for the first time, email me (chipe@wschurch.org) letting me know 1) you want to be in a small group and 2) what nights of the week would NOT work for you. If you’re brand new to the whole “small group” thing, they’re simply small groups of 6-12 people that meet weekly to learn and pray together. You can do those things solo, of course, but we’re convinced those things are better when done in community. If you aren’t in one, you need to be.
BRING Pop-Tarts to 2nd Sunday Lunch THIS SUNDAY
Come to Centennial Hall after the 11:30am service on Dec 11 to dig in on a free lunch and connect with other young adults that attend West Side. Lunch is free, as always, but this Sunday we’re asking each person to bring one or more boxes of pop-tarts in order to help supplement the Hope for the Holidays grocery-buying. We’re needing any flavor of either 8- or 16-count boxes of pop-tarts— THE OFF-BRAND STUFF IS NOW AOK. (Rumor has it that Wal-Mart has some 8- and 16-count boxes of tarts at a great value.)
YA Shirts are HERE
Those stellar Young Adult shirts you ordered and paid for have arrived, so come and get ‘em at Second Sunday Lunch this Sunday or Grow next Saturday!
Basketball THIS SUNDAY
As usual, we’re playing basketball in the church gymnasium this Sunday night from 6-8pm. Bring a friend!
Helping Hope for the Holidays NEXT SATURDAY
While most of Saturday and Sunday’s Hope for the Holidays volunteers will be bagging groceries at County Market, the Young Adults have accepted the high and noble task of unloading trailers of bagged groceries as they arrive at Harvard Park, moving them into the gym. So plan on joining us at Harvard Park Elementary School (2501 South 11th Street) during one of five shifts (below) on Saturday, Dec 17 and Sunday, Dec 18. Email Kiran at kiran_spbl@yahoo.com to tell him what shift(s) we can count on you for:
12/17 shifts: 9:45-11:15am // 12:30-2:30pm // 2:30-4:30pm
12/18 shifts: 1:30-3:30pm // 3:30-5:30pm
Christmas Grow Party NEXT SATURDAY
GROW—our monthly young adult large-group Bible study with dessert—will be a little more like a Christmas party this month. On Dec 17, rather than at the café, we’ll be at John and Becky Minick’s homestead (2043 Briarcliff Dr) for a short devotional, some yuletide games, and Christmassy potluck. (Food sign-up will be at 2nd Sunday Lunch.) As usual, we’ll get started at 7pm, so come early to meet others who are connecting to the West Side young adult community.
Another Sac-Lunch NEXT SUNDAY
Last Sunday, Young Adults chose to sacrifice their typical Sunday lunch out in exchange for eating a cheap lunch in someone’s home. This “Sac-Lunch” approach enabled them to take the money that would have otherwise been spent at a restaurant and give it to West Side’s Hope for the Holidays effort. They collectively raised nearly $190 in one Sac-lunch—enough to supply 1.5 Harvard Park families with enough groceries to last them the entire Christmas vacation! The overwhelming popularity of the first Sac-lunch demands another; so we’re doing it again next Sunday, assuming Hope for the Holidays could still use more cash at that point. Bring the cash you would spend on your Sunday restaurant lunch and meet up with us in the left end of the Worship Center after the 11:30 service on Dec 18. From there, we’ll pass out directions and carpool to Melanie Credo’s home to eat.
Sac-Everything THIS MONTH
We’re starting to learn the genius of downgrading so that others might upgrade. So while we think the Sac-Lunch idea is great, we’re hoping YAs will take this idea a little further. So during the whole month of December, be looking for ways to carry out Sac-Dinners, Sac-Movies, Sac-Ice Creams or Sac-whatevers—sacrificing those typically costly get-togethers with friends, and instead doing them in a home on the cheap so you can give more to Hope for the Holidays. Bring whatever Sac-money you’ve accumulated to Second Sunday Lunch and/or Grow, where you’ll have an opportunity to drop it off.

Bring rakes if you have them. For more info, contact Patrick Yeagle at pyeagle@gmail or 217-377-4435.

Decision Day: September 11
Sunday, September 11 is Decision Day at West Side! During each service, we anticipate that many people will make important spiritual decisions. Some will express faith in God’s Son for the first time and be baptized into Him. Some, who already believe, will come to experience biblical baptism by immersion. Others, because they are already immersed believers, will make West Side their church home. If you are ready to make one of those decisions, take advantage of this opportunity. Join many others who plan to respond next Sunday. To participate, or if you have questions about what spiritual step is best for you, contact me at chipe@wschurch.org, or 793-2800.

September 23-24: Fall Retreat
On Fri/Sat next Weekend (Sept 23 and 24), West Side YAs are packing up and heading to Little Galilee Christian Assembly (near Clinton) for a Fall Retreat. Expect it to be a great opportunity to worship, learn something about the Bible from Kyle Alt (youth minister from Jefferson St. Christian Church in Lincoln), refocus on God, meet new YAs and connect with YA old-timers. The $25-cost covers food and lodging for the weekend. You can give your money to me at Grow or after church, or show up with it next Friday night. We’ll meet at the church at 6pm Friday (the 23rd) and get back late Saturday night. Tell us you’re coming by emailing me or via the Facebook link here!

We’ll come home after the 9:30pm fireworks show. Bring some money and a tummy ready to chow on some legendary fair food.
